Utilized in the Paleolithic period (starting about 40,000 years ago), brittle and sharp Obsidian was carved into arrowheads, spears, and other tools to assist early humankind. When molten lava cools, it forms glass over time; but Obsidian cooled quickly and remained opaque – creating the most potent natural glass known to earth!
This incredibly ancient healing ally reminds us of our light and dark nature, striving to help us reach a balance in our polarities. Obsidian doesn’t want us to hide from our darker nature: in fact, it shines a light onto it so that we can acknowledge and heal our shadow selves. And encourages us to face our true selves. Obsidian is metaphysically revered for its ability to cut through negativity, repair the aura, and increase our self control – it has also been traditionally used for scrying. It’s a stone found all around the world, and reveals itself to us in a myriad of colors, sheens, and shimmers, but none so deeply powerful as black Obsidian. Incredibly protective and grounding, Obsidian is a must-have in any crystal healer’s collection – a powerful talisman of thousands of years between its first uses and now.
Fun fact for all you GoT fans out there: Obsidian is the stone referred to as “Dragon Glass” in the Game of Thrones universe!

Spheres are very powerful, and potent crystal magic. When a crystal is carved into a sphere, it sends out its energy in every direction evenly, filling your entire space and energy field with the magic and the specific properties of that stone. Spheres work tirelessly to radiate in ALL directions – all you have to do it is simply place it in your space and it works its magic!
Have you ever wondered how crystal spheres are made? They radiate their love in all directions now, but it took some work to get them there! First, raw stone is cut in a cube using machines similar to woodworking tools that have been embedded with diamond dust. Then the corners are cut, over and over and over, until what remains looks like a geodesic sphere with many faces. The infant sphere is then placed into two rotating cup grinders, one on either side, which smooths out the faces. The ball is now formed, but it has a frosty look at this stage, so it needs finer polishing. The next steps happen by hand, with a wheel or belt, with grades of grit that get finer and finer until the quartz starts to shine. The final step is grinding the sphere against a cerium oxide grit that actually melts a bit of the surface quartz to reveal its glassy luster. Spheres require a SIGNIFICANT amount of original material to work with, and that sheer amount of rock, along with the time, work, and craftsmanship, is why spheres can be more costly than other forms of crystal carving.
All stones and crystals in our shop have been cleansed with our natural mountain spring water (except for those that may dissolve in water, such as selenite) and have been smudged with organic white sage, harvested sustainably and produced fairly.
Please note that crystals, minerals and fossils are a natural product and are rarely perfect. I do my best to capture each side of each piece in the photos. Please remember that all monitors and screens pick up colors differently. My photos are ALWAYS taken in natural sunlight and are NEVER enhanced. Each one is unique and one of a kind. They are creations of Mother Nature that have weathered thousands of years in the earth. 🙂
