The wisdom of amber is one of nature suspended in time. Amber is a powerful healer, utilized by ancient humans the world over for as long as we have worked with the earth elements and adorned ourselves in its beauty through jewelry and talismans. This Mayan Amber is one of my favorite finds of the 2019 Tucson gem show. At nearly 30 million years old, it is harvested, polished, and carved by a single family in Mexico. I had the honor of speaking at length with them and learned all about this incredible material! I am absolutely thrilled to bring it to you in the shop. You’ll notice the price difference between this, genuine amber in exceptionally large pieces and light colors (the lighter pieces are more sought after than the dark reds), and “copal” amber, which is estimated at being only about 1000 years old. Genuine, ancient amber is incredibly rare (especially found with insects), and highly collectible and highly potent metaphysically. It’s quite unusual to find pieces this large! They feel so soothing and calming in the hand, you won’t want to put yours down!
Amber supports our deepest hurts, our oldest pains, and our most intense traumas. While not a stone at all, but rather a fossilized tree resin, Amber has long been prized by cultures around the world as hardened drops of honey, solid piece of sun, encompassing the possibilities of renewal, rejuvenation, cleansing and newfound strength.
This is a wonderful talisman to assist us in ancestral work, past life work, or this life’s work and traumas. Amber is said to remove negativity, replace it with optimism and light, and thereby helping us to alleviate our own stress. It’s a stimulating stone, reactivating, and works with the Solar Plexus chakra of the body. Amber’s metaphysical properties are said to be soothing, calming, like a balm. This is a very warming and comforting stone, especially for those having undergone upsetting experiences. Amber is wonderful for children, as it is very calming and is said to protect them from harm.
Called “Gold of the North,” or “Gold of the Sea” and formed over 45 million years ago, Baltic Amber is an organic substance, a “fossil resin” produced by pine trees which grew in Northern Europe – from southern regions of the present day Scandinavia and nearby regions of the bed of the Baltic Sea. The climate became warmer and trees started to exude big amounts of resin. Scientists say that amber is a fossil pine resin from this region that has achieved a stable state through oxidation.
Amber facilitates self expression and helps us discover and define our self worth. It brings confidence through through stimulating our intellect and our passion for healing and life. It encourages us to feel worth and full in life.
Fun fact: when warmed on the skin, amber releases salicylic acid, which helps reduce inflammation and relieve pain. This is why you see young babies with baltic amber necklaces for teething purposes! I have personally used baltic amber on my wrists for DeQuervain’s tendonitis – and I can tell you it works! It takes the edge off enough to forget about the pain. It’s really amazing. Holding one of these palm stones is both physically and metaphysically soothing.
This listing is for ONE (1), natural and authentic Mayan Amber sphere, cut, polished and fairly mined by a small family in Mexico who we work with closely. I feel honored and deeply blessed to support this small family operation, and bring you these incredible pieces direct from them! Each sphere measures approximately .6-.75 inches in diameter and each is unique and one of a kind. Most are very similar, with excellent clarity, occasionally a bit of ancient foliage is present!
Through touching, holding and wearing, your amber talisman’s sheen may dull with time. This is completely NATURAL and due to the oils in our skin. Simply polish your amber to restore its sheen (the family who mines them recommends motor oil, however I simply use a polishing cloth!).
All stones and crystals in our shop have been cleansed with our natural mountain spring water (except for those that may dissolve in water, such as selenite) and have been smudged with organic white sage, harvested sustainably and produced fairly.
Please note that crystals, minerals and fossils are a natural product and are rarely perfect. I do my best to capture each side of each piece in the photos. They are creations of Mother Nature that have weathered the elements and more for untold number of years, and I cannot guarantee perfection or perfect points. These are natural objects. All photographs are taken outside, in natural sunlight, and the photos are NEVER altered.
