These beautiful boxes are carved from sacred Thuya Burl tree, an aromatic tropical hardwood native to the Atlas mountains of Algeria and Morocco. A member of the cedar family, and named by the Greeks from the word “thusia,” meaning “sacrifice,” the tree is beloved for its highly aromatic oils, once distilled and used as incense in spiritual practice. Some churches still work with thuya oil and resin for sacred ceremonies, and consider it medicinal in nature. Thanks to its high oil content, even the wood alone is powerfully fragrant, said to repel pests, and beloved for its ability to brighten the mood and uplift the spirit. Slightly piney, sharp, and fresh in scent, Thuya Burl is a firm, dense wood with dramatic patterning, spotted knots/eyes, and bright auburn chocolate coloring. No two pieces from a single carving are alike.
These bowls are the very ones you see modeling and holding tumbles for sale in the shop! Now they’re available to you for your own tumble collection. A sturdy bottom keeps them firmly flat, beautifully opened and curved edges show off everything within, and the rainbow of tumbles displays perfectly in them! It’s not too deep, not too shallow; holds a good number of tumbles, crystal hearts, jewelry, keys, and much more! Measurements are below (tumbles pictured are not included).
This listing is for ONE (1) Sacred Thuya wood carved bowl from the lot pictured. Each bowl has a diameter of *approximately* 5.25 inches from the outer edges, though each is hand-carved and may have very minor differences. Your bowl will be intuitively selected for you, but if you prefer more or less knots, or certainly patterning for your bowl, please put your request in the “notes to seller” box at checkout.
This listing is for the “Mushroom” style box – each box has a securely fitting lid that easily pops off and on for closure.
All stones and crystals in our shop have been cleansed with our natural mountain spring water (except for those that may dissolve in water, such as selenite) and have been smudged with organic white sage, harvested sustainably and produced fairly.
Please note that crystals, minerals and fossils are a natural product and are rarely perfect. I do my best to capture each side of each piece in the photos. They are creations of Mother Nature that have weathered the elements and more for untold number of years, and I cannot guarantee perfection or perfect points. These are natural objects. All photographs are taken outside, in natural sunlight, and the photos are NEVER altered.
